Do you offer a removable duvet cover?
No. We discovered many years ago that using a zipper and ties to secure the heavy inner liner to the outer, removable cover was not effective. The zipper teeth would likely become misaligned and jammed after only a few exposures to the spinning, tumbling and agitation experienced from washing and drying. Also, cloth ties are prone to breaking and/or becoming loose, resulting in the inner liner separating from the outer liner. To learn more, click here.
Do you make queen and king sized weighted blankets?
We can make a custom blanket for you of any size. However if we were to make a king size weighted blanket it would have to weigh about 40 pounds to get the same deep pressure feeling, since the bigger the blanket gets the more it has to weigh because the weight gets so spread out. We created the weighted blanket to really fit an individual so it can truly mold to the body getting that deep pressure feeling.
Why don't you use polyfil inside the blanket?
One of the things that makes the Magic Blanket magical is the way it molds and conforms to the body. The Magic Blanket only uses poly pellets inside our weighted blanket. This allows our blanket to contour around the body, and makes the Magic Blanket feel like it is giving you a hug. Polyfil stiffens the blanket resulting in the blanket laying flat on top of the body rather than molding around the body. Additionally, polyfil adds increased heat to the blanket, acting like insulation trapping body heat.
If I don't love my blanket, can I return it for a full refund?
Yes, if it is a non-custom blanket. See our 100% Guarantee for details. Send us an email at Returns and let us know that you're sending it back. As long as it's within ten days of receiving the blanket and still in new condition without any pet hairs or stains, we'll issue you a full refund once we receive it. But you'll have to pay for return shipping.
How do I know what size to get?
The most important factor in determining the right size for young users, is to choose a size that allows for growth. For details on how to do this, see our Choosing The Right Weight section. Choosing a length and weight that is one or two sizes larger will ensure that your investment brings many years of comforting hugs.
For adults, we have found from our customer's experiences, that users less than 5' 7" do very well with a 16 pound blanket and users taller than 5' 8" find the 20 pound blanket to be ideal. Also, for users taller than 5' 8", make sure you choose a blanket that is at least 78-inches long. A 72-inch length blanket will likely be too short for someone taller than 5' 8".
What is used for weight inside the blanket?
We only use 100% new, BPA-free, non-toxic, hypo-alergenic polypropylene pellets inside our Magic Blankets. We have been using these pellets for over 20 years.
Some other weighted blanket companies are recommending glass beads. We evaluated glass beads as an alternative to poly pellets. We opted NOT to offer glass as an option after seeing how small the individual grains of glass are. They are the size of raw sugar and look like sugar, as well. Because of the very small size of each grain of glass, we felt there would be a possibility of the glass beads working their way through the seams and out of the blanket. This is a risk we are not willing to take.
How does The Magic Blanket work?
Weighted blankets, like The Magic Blanket™ , have shown to generate proprioceptive input on our bodies. For many people, this input causes the brain to release neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, among others. These neurotransmitters released by the brain have naturally calming effects, which have proven to be beneficial for people experiencing sensory integration disorder, anxiety, stress, Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD, and Rett Syndrome. It's important to note that The Magic Blanket is not a substitute for care from an occupational therapist or mental health professional.
How do I wash my blanket?
Magic Blankets made with minky, cotton, flannel or fleece can be machine washed with cold water on the regular cycle and dried on low to medium heat in the dryer. Do not use fabric softeners with the minky fabric.
Our super-ultra-soft chenille blankets can also be machine washed with cold water on regular cycle. It can be machine dried on a low heat setting or air dried. Do not use fabric softeners with the chenille fabric.
How are the blankets made?
Our blankets are made in the United States with an inner liner and an outer layer, which consists of either Chenille, Minky, Cotton, Flannel or Fleece. There are no visible seams, giving the blanket a smooth and elegant look.
The inner liner is made from cotton and constructed with two panels that form the quilted squares in which we place the poly pellets. This keeps the weight evenly dispersed. We then cover the inner liner with the outer layer, so you don't see any stitching.
When ready to wash, the entire blanket goes into the washer and dryer.
How did you come up with the size of your blankets?
Our blankets are designed to be long enough to extend from the chin past the toes. And wide enough to allow a person to move from side to side and not lose coverage while sleeping. Many people frequently shift positions while sleeping. A blanket that is too narrow will shift off the body when rolling from one side to the other, causing a loss of pressure on the body and causing the person to wake. For children, we found that a very effective width was 36 inches and for adults, 42 inches.
Are these blankets durable enough to endure years of washing?
Yes. We use only the highest quality fabric and make them on heavy duty machines with industrial strength thread.
Magic Blankets made with fleece, cotton or flannel can be machine washed with cold or warm water on the normal cycle and dried on low or medium heat in the dryer. The fleece will actually get even softer with each washing.
Our super-ultra-soft chenille and minky blankets can also be machine washed with cold or medium water and washed on regular cycle. But we recommend the chenille be machine dried on a low heat setting. This will help keep the soft fabric feeling luxurious for years.
What is the Magic Blanket Lite?
We heard from many of our customers that they wish we had a lighter version of our standard weighted Magic Blanket. It turns out that many of our customers were getting The Magic Blanket for a loved one who required deep pressure input. They would try the blanket as well and while the heaviness was calming, it was a bit too
After hearing this many times, we decided it was time for the Magic Blanket Lite. The perfect balance for those not on the spectrum with just enough weight to provide that gentle and calming hug without the deeper pressure stimulation.
Perfect for seniors and adults who crave a medium weighted blanket, the Magic Blanket Lite is making wishes comes true, one gentle hug at a time.
What is the difference between chenille and minky fabric?
Chenille and Minky are the same polyester fabric. The difference is chenille has a longer fiber, so you can rub your fingers "through" the fabric, giving it a plush, soft feel. Minky has a shorter fiber, so you rub your fingers "on top" of the fibers, giving it a silky soft feel.
High heat from the dryer can make the longer fibers on the chenille a little shorter and a little less soft over time, so it's best to dry chenille on a low heat setting or air dry. Minky can be machine dried on low or medium heat and the shorter fibers will not be affected.
