So, one of the realities of running a small/micro business for the past 25 years is that I pretty much "get to" do it all.
From the moment I came up with the idea of putting those little plastic beads found inside my daughter's Beanie Babies into a blanket so that the weight would cause it to "hug me back," I have had the pleasure of doing almost everything myself.
Who designed our first web site? Me.
Who applied for the first patent on a weighted blanket? Me.
Who scoured the city of Los Angeles looking for a manufacturer? Me.
Who wrote and produced our first television commercial? Me.
Who applied for the trademark on our slogan "The blanket that hugs you back?" Me.
Who answers the phone and responds to every email? Me.
This has created a bit of a reputation for myself as "the weighted blanket guy." I know this because when I answer the phone and say, "Hi, this is Keith with the Magic Weighted Blanket," I will often get a mildly surprised response of, "You're the weighted blanket guy." And after having done this for nearly 26 years, I have to say, "Yes, it is."
No one has been answering questions about weighted blankets longer than me. So I decided to formalize my title as "The Weighted Blanket Guy" by creating a persona around that identity.
And when you create a persona that you want the world to know about, what do you do? You write and send out a press release. So that is what I have done.
And who do you think wrote and sent that press release out? Me.
